Dn. Evangelos Karapoulios

Father Christos P. Kanakis was born in San Francisco California and grew up attending, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in San Francisco, California, where he was inspired to follow the calling of the priesthood by Father Anthony Kosturos of blessed memory.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Religion at San Francisco State University in 2006, he graduated from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, in Boston, Massachusetts, and received his Masters of Divinity in 2009.
In 2009, Fr. Christos was assigned to St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in Pasadena by His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos to begin his ministry as the Pastoral Assistant.
On June 6, 2010, Fr. Christos was ordained to the Diaconate by His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos in the parish where he was raised in, Holy Trinity in San Francisco, to serve Saint Anthony in Pasadena as a Deacon until he was ordained to the Priesthood at Saint Anthony on January 16, 2011 as the second priest.
On Sunday, March 10, 2013, Fr. Christos was appointed as the Pastor of The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach, California.
Dn Evangelos was born in Krania, Grevena, Greece, and moved to Toronto, Canada
when he was eight years old.
In 1989 he settled in southern California when he got married.
Since that time, he and his family have been active stewards at the Assumption
Church in Long Beach CA. He previously served on the Parish Council, director of
the Sunday School, and volunteer for the Food Festival.
Deacon Evangelos holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Finance
from California State University – Fullerton. He’s the owner-operator Jolly Boy
Burgers in Bell Gardens, CA. He is also head coach of a high school varsity
basketball team at a private Christian school in Newport Beach, CA.

He is a 2021 graduate of Diaconate program at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School
of Theology. He was ordained to the Holy Deaconate by his Grace, Bishop Ioannis
of Phocaea on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

Deacon Evangelos is married to Diakonissa Eleni (Exacoustos), and they are the
parents of Stamatia (Tia) and Gregory
